Interactive fiction and other narrative experiments.
I've been writing interactive fiction since I was a teenager. I started out doing parodies of Infocom games (because it was the mid-1980s, and I was a teenager). After college I got back into the IF scene, which had changed from a commercial genre to the domain of amateurs and dedicated fans. I took first prize in the first IFComp in 1995; I wrote some of the seminal works of the modern IF movement, such as *Spider and Web* and *Shade*.Striking out on my own
After years of work on free games and open-source IF tools, I grabbed hold of a strange new service called Kickstarter. I launched my Kickstarter project in 2010, promising a new full-scale game called *Hadean Lands*. I also wanted to try other narrative experiments, like *Meanwhile* -- and to keep hacking with the open-source community. The Kickstarter was a success, and *Hadean Lands* was finished in late 2014. The hacking continues.
